Mountain Conquered by Criminal Minds

The CBS crime drama Criminal Minds took over the mountain communities this week, as the FBI’s seven-member Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) stayed a step ahead of a serial killer who targets the fictional town of Franklin, Alaska.

One of the stars of the show, Kirsten Vangsness, who plays computer wiz Penelope Garcia, took a moment to say hello to The Mountain Enterprise: “I grew up in Porterville [north of Bakersfield] and always heard about Frazier Park and what a great place it is, but never visited here,” she said.

Production began Monday at the Mil Potrero Y, where Garcia witnesses a murder. Later Monday, BAU members discovered that they’ll have to share rooms in a tiny motel called the Tavern Inn—known locally as Alpine Plaza.

Criminal Minds - Shemar Moore is more than a pretty face

ONE WOULD think that a chiseled hunk who regularly pops up on those lists of "TV's Sexiest Men" would have earned camera-hog status by now. But on this drizzly day in San Francisco's Russian Hill neighborhood, Shemar Moore emerges from a black SUV on the set of "Criminal Minds" to utter just one scripted line.

Or three words, to be exact.

"How's the mom?" he says to co-star Thomas Gibson, referring to a character at wit's end following the abduction of her teen daughter.

Yes, just three measly words. Nice work if you can get it.

"And the Emmy goes to ... " Moore jokes as he ducks into a garage, where he hoists his T-shirt to allow a technician to remove a hidden mic, and in the process, provides a quick flash of his oft-photographed abs. Are those prolonged sighs we hear from the women in the crew?

Matthew Gray Gubler: I'd rather play a Chipmunk than Othello!

Matthew Gray Gubler: I'd rather play a Chipmunk than Othello!

Although I'm admittedly not the world's biggest "Criminal Minds" watcher, I've been drawn to one thing in every episode I've seen: Matthew Gray Gubler. Matty Gray (cuz we're close like that) continued to get my attention in "(500) Days of Summer," when he played Tom's best friend Paul. But one place he didn't catch my eye is in "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel."

But before you start to think I'm a fair-weather fan, know that Matthew didn't garner much attention in the kiddie flick because he voices Simon. A role that Matthew says is more important in his mind than playing Othello on London's West End.

As it turns out, I might not have only been drawn to Matthew because of his model good looks, jealousy inducing hair or quirky style -- we are also kindred karaoke spirits. Neither he or I can carry a tune to save our lives. But unlike me, Matthew relishes his warble.

Criminal Minds: The Lighter Side - Part 6

We finish up Season 2 with episodes 16-23 which includes one of our favorites of all time...the bar scene from Open Season.
Have we missed any of your favorites from Season 2? Tell us!

2.16 Fear and Loathing - Emily burns her hand pouring herself coffee and then has a conversation with Morgan about dating, being a nerd, and a shared interest in Kurt Vonnegut.

2.17 Distress – Gideon and Morgan are at the underground lair of the Unsub and Gideon gestures Morgan to go down into it. Morgan says he’s putting in for hazard pay, and Gideon says, “Good luck with that”

2.18 Jones – JJ needs some information from Garcia and gives her a call. After getting what she was looking for JJ says, “You’re the best ever.” Garcia: “Awww…and you’re the most perceptive.”

2.19 Ashes and Dust – Reid is talking about statistics on arsonists and says he’s trying to be more conversational to which Emily replies “Yeah, it’s not working”

2.20 Honor Among Thieves – The funniest scene from this episode isn’t actually in this episode. It’s in the outtakes, which we’ve attached for those that have not seen it. Paget Brewster & “Motherballs” = hilarious!

2.21 Open Season - The infamous bar scene with Prentiss, JJ, and Garcia; one of our favorite scenes of all time. Our three ladies go out for drinks at a local bar. When Emily goes to get beer for the three of them, she meets Brad, “a real FBI Agent”. Our agents pretend to be impressed and Garcia even wants to know what its like at “Quan-Ti-Co”. Brad thinks things are going his way only to have the ladies flash their badges proving, indeed, who the real FBI agents are and sending Brad shirking away.

2.22 Legacy – At the end of this heavy case, they all watch an old Charlie Chaplin movie which results in them throwing popcorn at each other and having a good time.

2.23 No Way Out II: The Evilution of Frank – the lightest moment of this episode is both light yet heavy at the same time. As Hotch profiles his team to Strauss, defending them and the jobs that they do, the team, oblivious to the inquisition Hotch is going through, jokes around with one another in the bullpen.

We will start tomorrow with Season 3

Criminal Minds: The Lighter Side - Part 5

We continue Season 2 with episodes 9-15. Emily Prentiss is introduced in Episode 9 and joins the team full-time in Episode 10. We can't quite see it yet but she brings a whole new sense of humor to this team. Intense yet funny...she is a welcomed change to the show.

2.09 The Last Word – JJ has scheduled a scripted press conference to lure one of the serial killers into making a mistake. Morgan, Hotch, and Gideon are making sure she’s got everything covered. Gideon: “And you have the script?” Hotch: “Make sure you say exactly those words.” Morgan: “The wording's important JJ.” JJ: “Relax…it’s not my first party, boys.”

2.10 Lessons Learned – We are treated to an awww moment with Hotch and his family at the end of this episode. Hotch is relieved to find Haley and his son at home instead of caught in the middle of the attempted terrorist attack the team just thwarted.

2.11 Sex, Birth, Death – Emily and Morgan talk to the prostitutes in the alley, and one of the girls says “The more important they think they are, the quicker they accidentally finish up with us, it’s weird like that” to which Emily replies “No, that’s pretty much universal”

2.12 Profiler, Profiled - Physics Magic. Reid is showing JJ and Garcia how to make a rocket using a film canister, pieces of Alka Seltzer, and water. We see the three as they anticipate the launch of the rocket, it goes off and hits Emily in the head. Emily takes it all in stride and then asks Reid to show her what he did. Reid demonstrates again and this time his rocket lands at the feet of a stern looking Hotch. After a quick admonishment, Hotch smiles and says “You’re starting to get some distance on those.”

2.13 No Way Out – Between Gideon and Frank, the most prolific serial killer ever. Frank: “My hope is that one day you'll feel the way I do too.” Gideon: “If I ever find myself feeling the way you do, I'll kill myself.” Frank: “Call me first. I'd love to pick your brains.”

2.14 The Big Game – Our team (minus Gideon) is hanging out at a bar watching the Super Bowl. We have Morgan getting his “groove thang on” with a couple of girls and Garcia taking in the show. Emily is having a conversation with Hotch and Haley over drinks. JJ is kicking a couple of guy’s butts at darts. And Reid is playing a drinking game about Star Trek trivia with a couple of people. Very nice opening scene to a very heavy episode.

2.15 Revelations – Hotch picks Garcia up and brings her to the creepy house belonging to their unsub Tobias Henkel. Garcia wonders why they are staying there instead of a hotel. Hotch: “Think of this house as witness. If it could talk, what would it tell us?” Garcia: “My guess is, it would tell us to get the hell out.”
