  1. Reid needs to grow up, after all, didn't he lie about his drug addition and actually treated Emily quite badly? At least this deceit from JJ and Emily was a way to protect him and the whole team. We are gonna get some drama, and it should be interesting since MGG and Paget are BFF's.

  2. To anonymous :
No, the problem isn't Reid needing to grow up.
It'll simply take some time for him to adjust to the situation and it's more than normal.
For seven months he believed Prentiss was dead. It'll be a huge shock for the whole team when the truth will be revealed, and they're all going to feel betrayed in some way. You can't seriously expect Reid to be okay with the situation after a couple of days.

Rossi and Morgan both have their own office, so they'll be able to retreat there.
Reid, on the other hand, is probably going to be "stuck" in the bullpen with both Prentiss and JJ (since JJ is now a profiler and not the media liaison anymore ..).
I can just picture Reid during those seven months staring at Prentiss desk, hurting and wishing she were here.
It'll be awkward (to say the least) when she'll really be here, sitting next to him all day. Like I said it'll take time for Reid to adjust to the situation.
The fact that he's giving Prentiss and JJ the cold shoulder "as he deals with their deception about Prentiss' presumed death" probably means that he's simply ignoring them because he hasn't had enough time to deal with the situation yet and doesn't know how to interact with them.
It's better for him to try to ignore them first than yell at them, once he has had time to deal with what happened it'll be better.

  4. I just saw this now. I didn't know about the "cold shoulder" stuff! I have been looking at this from a different perspective. I think a part of Reid (his intellect) KNEW that Prentiss wasn't dead. Surely he recalls the conversation on the plane in a previous episode where she said she would prefer to be cremated. On top of that, after her "death," he never got to see Emily's body nor did anybody else. His profiling instincts are good and I'm sure he'd notice the guilty glances between JJ and Hotch.

I think Reid opted to follow his heart instead on this one. He chose to believe that despite the proof in front of him, the team wouldn't lie to him and betray him and the others by keeping them out of their circle of trust. They are like a family. He told Morgan in "The Popular Kids" that every time he decides to trust somebody it gets thrown back in his face. I think he is feeling this now. He's upset with himself for following his heart and ignoring what was in front of him. Will he ever be able to trust again or will Morgan be the only exception?

Reid also feels angry because he was left out, especially after confiding his headache problem to Emily. Spencer might even feel that Hotch, Emily, and JJ put him in a position to suffer a relapse since Prentiss' "death" is something that he might have wanted to deny, hence forget and escape from the reality. He is an addict and always at risk for a setback. The others know this and yet they put him in a position to not only hurt himself but also the remaining members of the team should his problem have rendered him unable to have their backs in the field. It's going to be hard for Reid to reconcile the feelings of betrayal. And this isn't even touching on his abandonment issues.

  5. This is going to be a difficult epi to watch considering all of Reid's issues.

I agree that it's better for the team family if he were to simply "not talk" to JJ and Emily for the time being until he has a chance to internally process all this sudden, new information. I have to keep in mind that Reid isn't as "socially developed" as you might expect of someone his age.

I also agree that this intentional, although well-meaning, betrayal really COULD have brought on a relapse, and I hope the writers portray just how strong Reid's character really is for NOT allowing a relapse.

In a later epi, it would be great for the writers to show Reid dealing with abandonment issues and how they relate to Emily's betrayal and Hotch and JJ's complicity in the whole affair.
