From Buddy TV: 'Criminal Minds' Spoilers

The team is reunited and on the trail of some nasty serial killers again this season on Criminal Minds. But more complicated than tracking down their nasty targets might be the emotional fallout from Prentiss' (Paget Brewster) staged death. The show's seventh season promises to roll up its sleeves and really explore the outside lives and connections between our favorite crime fighters. What does this mean for the BAU team? It looks like there might be some bumpy times ahead.

Beware, Criminal Minds spoilers ahead! This is your last chance to turn back!

An Ex Comes Back Into the Picture

Agent David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) has been married a grand total of three times. It's something the character has often joked about, particularly to old friend Hotch (Thomas Gibson). Now it looks like Rossi's romantic past will become his present this season when one of his ex-wives turns up for a visit.

The first of Rossi's three leading ladies will pop up in a two episode arc this season. She'll be played by the lovely Isabella Hofmann from Homicide Life on the Street. Why the sudden reappearance? It looks like Rossi's starter wife finds herself in a bit of trouble. Who better to turn to than an ex-husband in the FBI?

  1. I know I'm not the only one who think they shouldn't overdo it with the 'personal life' of the BAU team members. I'm worried about all this talk about seeing their personal life more this season.

I'm still interested to see what issues Reid will have to deal with concerning his mother, though. But I hope they don't forget what makes this character unique : his genius and his (usually) sweet and unassuming nature.

  2. I disagree. I don't think the show should only be pro - the social part of the show is what helps to give it such a large fan base.

  3. I'm glad the writers will have a look at the personal life of the team. I care about those characters and want to know more.

  4. I agree with the posters on this blog and I respect ALL of their opinions. Although I like the professional aspects of the stories, I do want more personal tidbits concerning the characters such as Reid dealing with his mother or Hotch with his son. I also like team interaction. Still, I am becoming more and more concerned that personal lives means delving into the romantic lives of characters. We will have a story about Rossi with his ex - wife and more about Garcia and Kevin & JJ and Will. This is ok to an extent, but I think there are enough romances for one Season. Yet,it appears that Barrois in her twitter chat the other day said that we will see LOTS OF LOVE this season and Hotch in a very different light. I hope this does not mean every character gets a love interest!! This is boring, lacks creativity, & is VERY predictable. And, what did Barrois mean when she said we will see Hotch's scars ? Also, I was somewhat concerned when Messer & Gibson hinted indirectly at a Hotch romance. I know this is just my opinion and some fans disagree with me, but I REALLY hope this does not happen this season. I want to learn other aspects about Hotch's personal life & why he is so serious. So yes, I am for personal story lines as long as "personal" means more creative plots dealing with other topics besides romance. Too many shows interpret the word "personal" to mean giving characters relationships. I want Criminal Minds to remain the best show on TV and in my opinion love interests will not accomplish this !!

  5. I don't mind if CM gives some romance to some of the characters, it is something CM has done since season 1, episode 1 scene 1 ( Hotch and Haley) All the characters had at some point some romance, Hotch with Haley, Reid with Lyla then Austin and lets not forget that Gideon tried to paired up Reid with JJ, Gideon with Sarah, Morgan with Tamara Barnes, Garcia and Kevin, JJ and Will, Rossi has 3 ex-wives. Only Prentiss has yet to get someone. Just because CM may do romance don't mean the show will be less creative or will not be as good as before. CM has done romance before and done it well no reason why they cannot do it again. Only thing I don't want is for the romance to be the main focus of an episode. I like when we see a little bit of it without focusing too much on it. As for a Hotch romance, this was hinted in season 5 when Haley made Hotch promised he would show what love is to Jack (100), how can he do that if he remains alone?

  6. While I respect your opinion & I guess I am one of the few lone voices concerning my views on the direction of the show, I DO NOT WANT THE SHOW TO TAKE THE DIRECTION OF ROMANCES. Yes, we got a little Reid romance in Season 1, but the writers never developed the Lyla story anymore which was great. I did not really find this episode believable. Also, the writers never developed the Tamara story more & it did not really develop into a full romance. Also, I know Hotch promised Haley he would show Jack what love is about. But, love does not just mean romances. It can mean love of family or the opposite of hate. It has many meanings depending on how one analyzes that word. We only got hints that Morgan liked Tamara. I am ok with Kevin & Garcia and JJ and Will but that is enough. My point is that it seems like (I COULD BE WRONG) that the writers/producers want to give other characters romances. IN MY HONEST OPINION, we have ENOUGH romances. I want other story lines concerning character personal lives. I guess a "love interest" is going to reveal the new side of Hotch. How predictable!!! If the show takes this direction, I guess I sadly do not have to watch.

  7. People a friendly reminder, you can voice your opinion but please no shouting, and yes writing a whole sentence in bold is shouting.

  8. I'm all for romance especially for Hotchner, he got so much darkness in his life, only bright spot is his son Jack, that the man need something good happening to him!

  9. This is just my opinion, but I really do not want to see a romance between Hotch and anyone at least not this season. Save it for the last few episodes of the show. I want him to remember Haley not just move onto another woman. If this occurs, I will be done with the show. I loved the first seasons of the show, and I guess I can remember the good times. In my opinion, a romance for Hotch is not the only good thing that can happen to him. In my opinion, Hotch can be happy again, and it does not just mean romance. I want to see other aspects of Hotch's life and more creative story lines. I guess most people disagree with me, but this is just my opinion. I guess if the show becomes unbearable to watch for me, I can watch reruns.

  10. I don't even consider what happened between Reid and Lila a 'romance'. She sort of flaunted her assets to Reid and made him fall in the pool, they kissed - end of story, and I hope it stays that way (I don't want to see a return of Lila Archer). Same thing with Austin, Morgan is the one who noticed Austin, he pointed her out to Reid. Austin was impressed by his magic trick and they exchanged phone numbers. I also hope this story won't be picked up again (it always feels as if it came out of left field).

I really hope we'll have a real story about Reid and his mother's issues. I'm really impatient to learn and see more about that story.

  11. I totally agree with your assessment. I do not want a Reid romance either. There had to be a reason why the writers did not continue the story line concerning Lila Archer or Austin. I too want to see more about Reid's family issues, intellectual talents, and his mom. Also, a poster mentioned that romance has been even explored for Morgan. While this is true in a sense, it was only hinted that Morgan liked Tamara and the writers also did not continue this story. Besides Haley and Hotch, the only serious romances we had on the show were between Kevin and Garcia & JJ and Will. I know some people mentioned that they wanted Hotch to get a love interest because he needs to move on and be happy again. I do not really agree that moving on just means a person gets a new romance 2 years after a wife dies. So many people in society believe that a person whose spouse dies or leaves, needs to move on within a few years. Some people never want to remarry and find happiness through other outlets such as friends, activities, & family. Love does not just mean romance but can apply to love of family and support of friends. What I feel is that we never really got to see other aspects of Hotch's life. I just feel that a romance for Hotch would be way too predictable, is too soon, and that he can find happiness through other means such as family or team support. I think it would be much more realistic if someone was interested in Hotch in an episode of Season 7, but Hotch declines a romance since he is not yet ready move on from Haley. During season 8 or the last season of the show, he can finally develop a relationship with this person. Believe me I am all for Hotch finding happiness and smiling some(as long as the writers do not change his serious personality). I liked Hotch's loyalty to Haley and his work ethic. If someone really has to get a romance this season let it be Emily since she never had a love interest on the show or Rossi can rekindle his romance with his ex-wife since she is already the focus of two episodes. I think it would be better for the writers to concentrate on themes such as team interaction, profiling, & a little bit of personal lives.

  12. I completely agree with the statement above: "If someone really has to get a romance this season let is Emily since she never had a love interest on the show". She has been through quite a lot and her issues with trusting other people have been mentioned a few times in previous seasons. I think it is really time for her to have somebody in her life whom she can trust and love.
